Harper's Ferry and Antietam

We pulled into Kellie and Scott's late Wednesday and did a little catch up and made plans for the next day. We visited the cute little town of Harper's Ferry and learned about the history of that town. To be completely honest, I had never heard about this town or what happened here. It was great to learn more about our history.

Then it was off to the Antietam! And again, I am guilty of not knowing about the history of the battle of Antietam. We didn't take any pictures, you will have to skip on over to Marcia's blog to take a look sometime. This is the place of the bloodiest one day battle in American history. Over 23.000 soldiers were either killed, wounded or missing after 12 hours! It was in a beautiful, quiet location and it was crazy to think about what happened there. We actually saw the guy who does the show American Ride on BYUtv on his motorcycle with a camera on his helmet. That was some fun excitement for us:)

Palmyra

This was probably our favorite stop along the church history trip. Palmyra is very pretty and quiet. We went straight to the Visitor's Center by the Sacred Grove and took the tour through the Smith Farm with a great sister missionary. It was a great experience to have the Farm to ourselves while the sun was setting.

Ready for our tour

Sacred Grove
We checked into our fantastic hotel, I think we were all excited for a clean and quiet hotel:) We went and found a yummy dinner called Yellow Mill Diner and it was so good! If you are ever in Palmyra that is where you should go eat. We ate there again the next day too.

The next morning we woke up early the next morning and went into the Sacred Grove and what an incredible experience. There was a wonderful spirit there and was probably my favorite place along the trip.

Afterwards we went to walk around the temple, and tour the printing shop in town. We also were able to visit Alvin's grave site in an old cemetery.

Notice the ink on the wall in the back? Original:)
